BULLYING SURVEY RESULTS: JUNE 2010.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The survey asked the students to report on bullying within the school environment within the last 12 months. There were several elements to the survey- Yelled At, Name Called, Puched/Kicked, Had things thrown at me, Given hurtful notes, Had notes written about me (including electronic- SMS, social networking sites…), Excluded from games or friendship groups, Given unfriendly looks, other, None of the above… There was also a written section that asked for the names of the bullied, the bullies and where this bullying occurred. The students could present the survey anonymously.

· Returns from Kindergarten to Year 6

· Kindergarten done via teacher

· Year 1- Year 6 done by the students.

· 254 returns across the school population, 99 in Year 1-2, 153 in Year 3-6.

FINDINGS:

1. Kindergarten-

· 10% of 53 students returned that they had been yelled at;

· 1.5% returned that they had experienced exclusion.

2. Year One and Two:

· 57%- Yelled At

· 20% Name Called

· 11% Unfriendly looks

· 10% Physical

· 9% Exclusion

· 3 % Hurtful Notes

· 20% None of the above (nothing)

3. Year Three to Year Six:

· 27% Name called

· 35% Yelled at

· 24% Unfriendly looks

· 12% Physical

· 11% Exclusion

· 7% Things thrown at me

· 7% Hurtful notes

· 2% Had notes written about me

· 24% None of the above.

· Other included Silent treatment, Bossed around, Lead on, Felt like I don't belong…

· Playground was the common area no time given.
